Respectful nursing practice is a critical ethical foundation for preserving patient dignity, fostering trust, and improving health outcomes. Despite its centrality to nursing care, the concept of respectfulness remains variably defined and inconsistently operationalized across diverse clinical and organizational contexts. The present concept analysis used Walker and Avant’s method to clarify the concept of respectful nursing. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify the concept’s uses, defining attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referent. Walker and Avant's iterative eight-step concept analysis method was employed. A comprehensive literature review was conducted. Thematic analysis was used to extract defining attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents. The analysis identified three core defining attributes: (1) effective communication characterized by clarity and empathy, (2) empathic presence and emotional atonement, and (3) active listening with genuine engagement. Antecedents included nurses' awareness of individual patient needs and preferences, meaningful family involvement, collegial collaboration, and demonstrated professional conduct. Consequences encompassed improved clinical outcomes, elevated patient satisfaction and well-being, strengthened nurse-patient therapeutic relationships, and positive workplace climate for nurses. Four validated instruments were identified: the Respect Scale, Workplace Respect Climate Self-Assessment, the 15-item Respectful Maternity Care Scale, and the Respectful Care Scale. This concept analysis provides a robust conceptual foundation to guide the development of evidence-based interventions, comprehensive educational strategies, and organizational practice standards that prioritize respect within nursing care. Implementation of these findings can enhance patient-centered care delivery and foster healthy work environments.
