RELAKSASI BENSON MENINGKATKAN KUALITAS HIDUP PASIEN KANKER YANG MENJALANI KEMOTERAPI DI RSUD KRATON KABUPATEN PEKALONGAN
Abstract
The side effects of chemotherapy among cancer patients not only impact physical problems but also psychological harm. These effects can reduce their quality of life. Therefore, a nursing intervention could be carried out through a spiritual approach such as modified Benson relaxation therapy. This study aims to identify the effect of modified Benson relaxation therapy on quality of life among cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-post-test design was used, involving 30 patients. A paired sample t-test was used for the statistical test. The EORTC QLQ C-30 instrument was used to measure quality of life. The majority (90%) of respondents were female, aged >50 years old (46,7%), and their educational background was elementary school (40%). Statistical results showed that there was a difference in the average score of patient quality of life before and after being given therapy. Thus, modification of Benson relaxation therapy could improve the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy (p-value 0.0003 < 0.05). Nurses could teach and apply this therapy in cancer patient care rooms for the patients and their families. This therapy still needs to be developed further to make it more effective, such as when combined with meditation.
