Using a quantitative descriptive method, data were collected through the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) questionnaire from 117 respondents. The overall mean score indicated a medium level of strategy use. Among the six categories, social strategies were most frequently used, showing that students often ask for clarification, practice with others, and seek help from peers. Compensation strategies were the least used, suggesting that students rarely guess meanings, use gestures, or paraphrase unfamiliar words. Memory, cognitive, metacognitive, and affective strategies were also applied at a medium level, showing selective use depending on context. Overall, Generation Alpha students prefer interactive and cooperative learning that supports social engagement. Thus, teachers are encouraged to design activities that enhance and strengthen the commonly used learning strategies among these students.
Febriani Baguna Gabriella Alleid Dian Baureh Copyright (c) 2026 SUMIKOLAH: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan 2026-04-12 2026-04-12 4 1 1 13 10.31154/sjip.v4i1.1493.1-13 Incidental Vocabulary Learning Through English Songs: A Correlational Investigation https://ejournal.unklab.ac.id/index.php/sumikolah/article/view/1499
Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between students’ level of listening to English songs and their vocabulary mastery. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 82 middle school students. Data were collected through a questionnaire measuring students’ listening habits and a vocabulary test consisting of 18 items. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Pearson product–moment correlation. The results indicated that both the level of listening to English songs (M = 3.34, SD = 0.82) and vocabulary mastery (M = 70.60, SD = 19.10) were at a moderate level. However, the correlation analysis showed a very weak negative relationship between the two variables (r = –0.127, p = 0.255), which was not statistically significant. These findings suggest that listening to English songs alone does not significantly contribute to students’ vocabulary mastery. Therefore, structured instructional strategies and active vocabulary practice are recommended to enhance students’ vocabulary development.

Keywords: listening to English songs, vocabulary mastery, EFL students, correlational study.

Tasya Priscilla Muaja Ate Gueen Simanungkalit Copyright (c) 2026 SUMIKOLAH: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan 2026-04-12 2026-04-12 4 1 14 23 10.31154/sjip.v4i1.1499.14-23 Students’ Habit of Watching English Movies and Their Speaking Ability https://ejournal.unklab.ac.id/index.php/sumikolah/article/view/1517
This study aims to examine the correlation between students’ habit of watching English videos and their vocabulary mastery. The background of this research arises from the phenomenon that although many students have a high habit of watching English videos, their vocabulary mastery is still categorized as good but not very good. This research employed a quantitative correlational design involving 87 students from classes XI 2, XI 3, and XI 4 at SMA Negeri 1 Airmadidi, selected through convenience sampling. The research instruments consisted of a questionnaire to assess the habit of watching English videos and a vocabulary mastery test. The findings revealed that students’ habit of watching English videos was categorized as high, with a mean score of 3.79, while their vocabulary mastery was categorized as good, with a mean score of 85. The Pearson correlation analysis showed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.232; p = 0.031), indicating that the higher the habit of watching English videos, the better the students’ vocabulary mastery. These findings highlight the importance of watching English videos as one of the supporting factors in vocabulary development, although other factors also contribute to language acquisition.

Keywords: students' habit watching English videos, vocabulary mastery, correlation
Janeigtheen Sabatini Tumbal Nofry - Frans Copyright (c) 2026 SUMIKOLAH: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan 2026-04-12 2026-04-12 4 1 24 33 10.31154/sjip.v4i1.1517.24-33 Grammar Mastery and Speaking Ability among Tenth-Grade Students https://ejournal.unklab.ac.id/index.php/sumikolah/article/view/1522
This study looks at the connection between grammar mastery and speaking ability among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Airmadidi in the 2024/2025 school year. It aims to find out if students who are better at grammar also speak English better. The research used tests to measure grammar and speaking skills in 36 students. The results showed a moderate positive relationship between grammar and speaking. On average, students had very low grammar scores and fair speaking scores. This means grammar helps improve speaking, but other things like vocabulary, fluency, and confidence also matter. The study suggests that teachers should combine grammar lessons with fun and interactive speaking activities to help students speak English more effectively.
Tiara Pearl Christianty Stephanie Gloria Amanda Tauran Copyright (c) 2026 SUMIKOLAH: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan 2026-04-12 2026-04-12 4 1 34 41 10.31154/sjip.v4i1.1522.34-41 Peran Literasi Keuangan dalam Pengelolaan Keuangan Mahasiswa: Tinjauan Literatur https://ejournal.unklab.ac.id/index.php/sumikolah/article/view/1476
Financial literacy is a crucial skill for individuals, particularly students, as they transition into managing their finances independently. This literature review aims to explore the role of financial literacy in students' financial management, focusing on key dimensions such as basic financial knowledge, savings and loans, insurance, and investment. The review also highlights the significant contributions of technology and education in enhancing financial literacy. Findings reveal that although students possess adequate theoretical knowledge of financial management, practical application remains limited. Moreover, challenges such as low engagement in formal financial products, limited awareness of insurance benefits, and hesitation toward investment activities persist. The integration of technology and education, particularly through practical learning approaches and accessible financial tools, can help address these issues. This study underscores the importance of targeted interventions to improve students' financial literacy and recommends further exploration of the demographic and behavioral factors influencing financial literacy levels.

Keywords—Financial literacy, financial management, financial planning
Deisye Supit Mareike Seska Diana Lotulung Copyright (c) 2026 SUMIKOLAH: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan 2026-04-12 2026-04-12 4 1 42 49 10.31154/sjip.v4i1.1476.42-49
